Elizabeth Hurley is the only Chief Advancement Officer on the list. This position handles donor relations and fundraising programming. They do not include recitals or oratorio performances. *2019-20 season was cut short due to the pandemic  *We did not include LA Opera's Adoration in the number because it will not be performed on the mainstage but in the Redcat theatre We can not ignore the decrease in productions over the years. While this is just a snapshot, the trend was happening before the pandemic. Ever notice how so many opera companies have increased recitals and orchestra concerts over the years? We think this is because of cost. The fact that opera is expensive to produce is one thing, but the ability to recoup the expenses is another. A decrease in productions also creates a domino effect, causing fewer opportunities for singers in the traditional route nationwide. This causes a smaller group of singers to get hired at companies. "It's not the cost of opera... The true question is: how can the opera industry recoup the production cost and make a good profit? Nonprofits still have to make money to survive.
